How to Get a Free Rank on a Minecraft Server (+ Servers With Free Ranks, 2026)
Ranks unlock the fun extras on a server: colored names, /fly in the lobby, extra homes, cosmetics, a bigger kit. Most servers sell them — but almost every server also has a way to get something for free.
This guide covers every legit way to get a free rank, lists servers that give free ranks right now, and explains which “free rank” tricks are scams.
What Is a Rank?
A rank is a group you belong to on a server. It decides what commands you can use and how your name looks in chat. A typical ladder looks like this:
| Rank | How you get it | Typical perks |
|---|---|---|
| Default | Join the server | Basic commands |
| Member / Vet | Playtime or voting | A few extra homes, a chat color |
| VIP / MVP | Store purchase | Cosmetics, /fly in lobbies, bigger kits, queue priority |
| Staff | Application | Moderation tools |
Mojang’s rules for servers limit selling gameplay advantages, so paid ranks on most servers are about cosmetics and convenience. That’s good news: the free routes below usually get you most of what matters.
Servers With Free Ranks Right Now

| Server | IP | Edition | Offer | Avg. online (30 days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WildNetwork | Java mbs.wildnetwork.net · Bedrock play.wildnetwork.net | Java + Bedrock | Free ranks | 1,717 |
| FreshSMP | play.freshsmp.fun (Java and Bedrock) | Java + Bedrock | Trial ranks | 1,482 |
| InsanityCraft | join.insanitycraft.net | Java | Free ranks | 172 |
- WildNetwork is a crossplay network with Survival and Prison. Its server-list message says “Free Ranks — Join Now”.
- FreshSMP is an SMP with a Duels mode, open to Java and Bedrock. It currently runs trial ranks — you get to use a paid rank for a limited time.
- InsanityCraft runs Survival, Factions and SkyBlock on versions 1.8 to the latest, with free ranks for players.
Offers change often. When you join, check the server’s /ranks or /rankup command, its Discord and its website for the current rules.
Tip: servers love to advertise free ranks in their server-list message. Scroll through your multiplayer list or the McRank server list and look for “free rank” or “trial rank” under the server name.
8 Legit Ways to Get a Free Rank on Any Server
1. Pick a server that gives ranks on join
The easiest route. Some servers give every new player a starter rank, or a free rank for the first days. See the table above.
2. Claim a trial rank
A trial rank lets you try a paid rank for free — usually for a few hours or days. Servers do this so you can see what the rank is like before you buy it. Look for /trial, /freerank or a “trial” button in the server’s menu.
3. Vote for the server
Voting is the most common free route. Many servers reward each daily vote with crate keys, in-game money or points — and on some servers enough votes unlock a voter rank or a temporary rank.
How it works:
- Find the server on a server list and press Vote.
- Enter your exact Minecraft username.
- Collect the reward in game (sometimes you need to be online, sometimes it waits for you).
Voting takes a minute a day and helps the server climb the rankings too. Full walkthrough: how to vote for Minecraft servers.
4. Play: playtime ranks
Many survival and SMP servers promote you automatically after a certain number of hours played — Member after 5 hours, Veteran after 50, and so on. Check /playtime and /ranks to see how far you are from the next one.
5. Join events and giveaways
Build contests, PvP tournaments, holiday events and Discord giveaways often have ranks as prizes. Join the server’s Discord and turn on notifications for the announcements channel — that’s where giveaways are posted first.
6. Link your Discord or boost the server
Some servers give a small rank or tag just for linking your Minecraft account to Discord (/link or /discord). Boosting the server’s Discord with Nitro often gives a “Booster” rank with real perks.
7. Make content: creator ranks
If you post Minecraft videos or stream, most big servers have YouTube / Twitch / TikTok ranks. You apply with your channel, and the server gives you a rank for making content on it. Requirements differ from a few hundred followers to several thousand.
8. Apply for staff or builder
Helpers, moderators and builders get a staff rank with its own perks. It is a job, not a reward — you need to be active, mature and trusted — but it is free, and it is how many players end up with the best rank on the server.
Bonus: friends can gift you a rank. Most server stores have a “gift” option where you enter someone else’s username.
“Free Rank” Tricks That Don’t Work
If someone promises a rank on any server with no effort, it is a scam. Avoid:
- “Free rank generators” and “rank hacks.” Ranks live on the server, not in your game. No website, mod or client can give you one — these sites steal accounts or install malware.
- Players selling ranks cheaply. They can’t transfer ranks. At best you lose the money; at worst you hand over your login.
- Sharing your account for a rank. Never give anyone your Microsoft login. Accounts get stolen this way every day.
/opand “secret commands.” Operator access is only for the server owner. Typing these commands does nothing — or gets you kicked.- Using an exploit or hacked client. Most servers ban for it permanently, often across the whole network.
Free Ranks on Bedrock, Xbox and Phone
On Bedrock you join the same way as on Java, so the same free routes apply. The easiest choice is a crossplay server from the list above — WildNetwork and FreshSMP both accept Bedrock players.
On Bedrock, enter the server address in the “Server Address” field and 19132 in the “Port” field. If you’re not sure how, see how to join a Minecraft server.
Ranks bought or earned on one edition usually carry over to the other on crossplay servers, because the server tracks your player account, not your device. Ask on the server’s Discord to be sure.
Run a Server? Why Free Ranks Work
For server owners, free and trial ranks are one of the cheapest ways to keep new players around:
- A trial rank shows players what they’d get if they buy — it sells ranks better than any store page.
- A playtime rank gives players a reason to come back on their second and third day, which is when most players quit.
- Vote rewards turn players into promoters: each vote moves your server up the lists.
If your server offers free ranks, say so in your MOTD and server description — players search for exactly this. Add your server to McRank for free, and read how to get more players on your Minecraft server for more ideas.
FAQ
How do I get a free rank on any Minecraft server?
There’s no single trick that works everywhere. The routes that work on most servers are voting, playtime ranks, events and giveaways, and trial ranks. Some servers also give free ranks to every new player.
Which Minecraft servers give free ranks?
Right now on McRank: WildNetwork (Java and Bedrock), FreshSMP (trial ranks, Java and Bedrock) and InsanityCraft (Java).
Are free rank generators real?
No. Ranks are stored on the server. A website or mod can’t add one to your account, and these “generators” are used to steal accounts.
Can I get a free rank on Bedrock or Xbox?
Yes. Join a crossplay server that offers free or trial ranks, such as WildNetwork or FreshSMP, and use the same methods: voting, playtime and events.
Do free ranks expire?
Trial ranks and event ranks usually do — from a few hours to a month. Playtime ranks and voter ranks normally stay as long as you keep playing or voting.
